The clients brief was to convert this old building into flats. The original building was 200 years old and in a poor condition.

The original building was completely renovated as below:

  • Original facade was mostly maintained and renovated, new gable ends added
  • Unstable internal walls demolished and new structural/sound proofed walls added to suit new flat layouts
  • Old ground floor replaced with new insulated floor, poor condition first floor replaced with a new sound proofed floor
  • The original collapsed roof was replaced with a steeply pitched roof to allow for a new sound proofed second floor and loft apartments.

The end result of the above work was six luxury apartments, two on each level with ample car parking and communal gardens for residents.

Downend Design provided all the architectural and structural design for this project, working in conjunction with the client and contractor.
